Beth raises her right hand to brush back her long red hair from her face and looks up to the windows across the street, hoping someone had shared this with her. Up at the top of the apartment block and to her right, a figure sits beside the light from a desk light and she knows that he has.

Beth sat quietly in the window. She had cradled the phone between her neck and shoulder to follow her instruction and now rubbed the ache slowly with the moist fingers of her right hand.

"Thank you," said the man. "I hope I wasn't out of order."

Beth was unsure of what to say. She couldn't quite believe what she had just allowed herself to do. She was suddenly embarrassed and covered herself quickly.
